BMW 5 series Gran Turismo F07

At the international exhibition 2009 in Geneva, BMW presented a new car – BMW 5 GT G07. The car represents a hybrid between a hatchback and a coupe. After 4 years, in 2013 the fifth series underwent changes. Gran Turismo is a term that appeared in the last century on the territory of Europe. During this period, long-distance travel by automobile began to take place. At the same time, motorsports developed, powerful and fast cars became fashionable.

Most of the cars with the prefix gran turismo mean a spacious and comfortable car with the most powerful engine. BMW F07 Gran Turismo from the BMW company is not an exception. This car was created especially for long-distance traveling. BMW 5 series F07 includes everything necessary for comfortable traveling.

Engine

The buyer can choose from a car model with 2 versions of diesel and gasoline engine.

• The first variation is the 535i, which implies BMW’s signature xDrive all-wheel drive. The volume of the motor is 3 liters. The characteristics of the BMW F07 with this engine are 306 horses. The maximum thrust is equal to 400 Nm, which is achieved from 1200 to 5000 rpm.
• The second gasoline version is the BMW 550i GT F07, also with the xDrive system. The engine displacement is 4.4 liters. It is characterized by two turbochargers. As a result, 450 horsepower with 650 Nm of torque is at the driver’s disposal, which is achieved from 2 to 4.5 thousand revolutions. Regardless of the selected engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission is installed. Acceleration to 100 kilometers takes less than 6 seconds. BMW F07 550i consumes about 9 liters per 100 kilometers of travel in mixed mode. The maximum speed in both cases is the same – 250 kilometers per hour.
• The diesel engine of the BMW 530d F07 has six cylinders at its disposal and is characterized by turbocharging. The volume of the motor is three liters. The maximum power is 258 horsepower with a maximum thrust of 560 Nm. Together with the diesel engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are installed. Acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour takes 6.2 seconds. Fuel consumption in mixed mode is 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers of traveled distance.
• Another version of the diesel engine on the F07, this is the 535d. The engine displacement is 3 liters. At the driver’s disposal is 313 horsepower with 630 Nm of peak thrust, which is achieved at 2,000 rpm. Acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour takes 5.6 seconds. Fuel consumption is 6.4 liters in mixed mode.

Interior

The interior made by BMW is immediately recognizable. The Bavarian manufacturer has perfected a laconic interior, which is always pleasing to the eye. F07 has one difference in the interior, this time the dashboard is not turned to the driver, which can not be said about other cars from the company BMW.  On the left side of the steering wheel there is a standard panel for light control. The car automatically knows how to turn on and off the optics, switch to high beam and back depending on what is happening on the road. This aspect requires a minimum of driver’s attention. Below there are three buttons, which are responsible for lane tracking, warning about collision with an object and help in realignment.

On the right side there is a multimedia system characterized by touch control. The same is installed in Audi A6. Above are the panels responsible for the adjustment of climate control, the function of seat heating. Near the controller the warrior will find a joystick of automatic transmission, near it there are buttons for activation of a camera of blind zones, circular or rear view. Stabilizing systems are controlled from here. All necessary functionality is at the driver’s fingertips. The car has a large number of buttons, but their ergonomics is easy to get used to.

One of the possible options in the F07 is a virtual dashboard with a 10-inch LCD display. Depending on the driver’s driving style, it displays either speed or fuel consumption and other auto parameters. On the back side of the front seats there are built-in monitors for rear passengers. Control is via the iDrive  system or the remote control. In the center of the rear seats there are levers for controlling climate control for rear passengers, as well as slots for USB. There is also a headphone jack.

Electronics

After getting into a BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo for the first time, one does not know where to look. In the cabin there are a lot of buttons responsible for different functions. To keep the driver from getting lost, the manufacturer has installed a projection display that focuses the driver’s attention. You quickly get used to the image on the glass. The car projects various data that are related to either traffic or music. The level of illumination is adjusted automatically, depending on the level of light in the cabin. The main task of the projection display is to inform the driver in time about the speed of the car, possible obstacles in front, whether there is a possibility of overtaking at the moment. This display also allows you to switch tracks or put on another radio without taking your eyes off the road.

Gran Turismo Sport BMW shows also diagnostic systems, warns the driver about the unclosed trunk. It is especially convenient to use the projection display as navigation. Now it is impossible to miss a turn. The car provides a detailed scheme of all road junctions.

In the BMW F07 GT there is an opportunity to purchase an analog instead of the classic panel. The main difference lies in the different principles of data output, depending on the selected mode. Regardless of the selected mode, comfort will be automatically selected every time after the ignition is switched on. BMW 5 F07 has smooth control, regardless of the selected mode. There are no jerks and the suspension remains soft. In sport modes, the steering wheel becomes stiffer, the car reacts faster to the accelerator pedal.

Features

The BMW 5 VI F10 F11 F07 is accompanied by an eight-speed automatic transmission, the F07 design combines a sedan and station wagon. The shortened platform from the seventh-generation car is used here along with a 2-lever chassis, with a multi-lever chassis at the rear. The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo has electric power steering, and also uses disc brakes on both the rear and front wheels. Air suspension problems in the BMW F07 are one of the possible problems, it is necessary to service it in time and monitor its condition.

In the domestic market, the cash price of the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo VI starts from 3347 thousand rubles. The basic configuration includes eight airbags, climate control system, premium audio system, leather interior, a package of electrical functions and various technology to maximize comfort and safety.

Appearance

The car externally looks heavy, especially at the back and sides. The dimensions of the car can be compared to the seventh generation BMW. The car is just over 5 meters long, 1.9 meters wide, and 1.559 meters high. The ground clearance does not allow off-roading and is 145 millimeters. The front is identical to the sedan from the BMW 5 Series, no complaints about its performance. In comparison BMW F07 F01 is worth highlighting the advantage in the appearance of the former.

Differences between restyling and prerestyling

After the restyling of the 5th generation BMW cars, the appearance has changed slightly. New LED headlights have been used, which are characterized by adaptive lighting during turns. Externally, the car became more aggressive.  Designers refused from round headlights and gave preference to angular ones.  Initially, the car was equipped with xenon headlights, after restyling F07 received LED headlights. In dark light, additional headlights are activated at the moment of turning, which illuminate the turn. The fog lights also involve LEDs. Rear LED BMW F07 after restyling also changed, in the area of contact with the trunks appeared a joint, which added a little grace to the car, and according to reviews of BMW F07 making its appearance more aggressive.

From the back of the car you can clearly see that the car weighs under 2000 kilograms. More often designers try to give the car a more airy look, but in this case they did without it. Changes have also touched the roof of the trunk. In the restyling of BMW F07 its shape was changed, due to which the volume increased to 500 liters, compared to the previous 440 liters. With the rear seats folded down, the storage capacity increases to 1,700 liters, which is quite relevant for long journeys.
