BMW 6 Series F13

BMW 6 F13 is a car of the third generation. The two-door “Six” replaced the corresponding model E63on the assembly line. BMW 6 series F13 was presented to a small circle on 18.11.2010. The general public saw the coupe in April next year at the Shanghai Auto Show. Production of BMW 6er III F06 F13 F12 (it is a convertible) is carried out in Dingolfing, where the largest plant of the concern is located.

Note that the F01, F10, 7 and 5 Series and the Gran Coupe F06 (4 doors). Also let’s say that in this generation there was no place for sedan and station wagon.

Appearance

The 2018 BMW 6 F13 Coupe is a car with an original exterior. It has an increased body length (4.894 meters) with the size of the wheelbase (2.855 meters). Hence the positive feedback from buyers, stating that the second row passengers are more comfortable than in the coupe of previous generations. Beautiful petal-shaped headlights with LEDs, fog lights, chrome radiator grille with air intakes and aerodynamic bumpers with splitter on the BMW 6 series F13 perfectly harmonize with the shape of the coupe.

The dynamic profile of the vehicle is complemented by large-sized BMW F13 rims made of light alloy metals. The aerodynamic properties of the BMW 6 series F13 are improved by the dodger.  The 2018 BMW 6 F13 has an aggressive look from the side. Massive expansions of the wheel arches and rather large upper/lower stamping lines catch the eye. The turn signal repeater is located here as well.

At the stern of the BMW 6 F13, the optics are also LED. The lid of the trunk compartment is made with a recess and equipped with a brake light repeater. The plastic insert of the massive bumper has integrated exhaust pipes. The weight of the car varies in the range of 1.765-1.855 tons. When creating the body, exceptionally strong steel is used. Doors with hood are made of aluminum, front fenders are made of plastic. Fiberglass is used for the trunk lid.

The width of the BMW 6 F13 is 1,894 mm, the height of the car is 1,369 mm and the ground clearance is 124 mm.

Interior

The interior of the BMW is finished with expensive materials. It has an elegant design and excellent equipment. The BMW F13 photo clearly shows wood/aluminum inserts, soft plastic, genuine leather.

The driver has an informative instrument panel with chrome inserts and a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel. The console, turned to its side, is decorated with a 7-inch color screen of the NBT system iDrive (10.2 – optional) navigation/multimedia system. Below it are air deflectors with a red “emergency” button in the middle. Just below that we see the climate control unit and CD slots. Under them is a small box for storing small things.

The front comfort seats are well designed. The multifunctional adjustment allows the seat to be adjusted to suit all body shapes. There is a memory function and side support.

Further on the photo of the BMW F13 we see a wide tunnel between the seats. Here there is another box, but a big one, a gear knob and a button disabling the stabilization system. To the left of the gear knob there is an electronic handbrake, to the right – buttons of multimedia control, and further – a niche with cupholders.

There are no handrails in the rear and the comfort is less than in the 1st row. But it is quite comfortable to sit. The doors with chrome inserts are covered with leather. The music system is from Bang&Olufsen.

The correctly shaped trunk has a volume of 460 liters. However, it is not possible to fold down the rear sofa to increase the luggage compartment. This is only possible in the Grand version.

The BMW F13 is not available with a spare tire even at extra cost.

Technical specifications

At the BMW F13 review of technical characteristics, let’s start with the engine models. There are only three of them, of which one is a turbodiesel.

The 640i xDrive coupe is equipped with a three-liter 320-horsepower TwinPower engine. It uses Valvetronic technology and has a turbocharger. Therefore, the car reaches 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, and the speed limit is 250. In combined mode, 7.9 liters of fuel is required for every 100 km. The BMW F13 650i xDrive is equipped with an eight-cylinder V-shaped unit with a volume of 4.4 liters and a capacity of 450 “horses”. TwinPower Turbo technology is also applied here. Maximum speed is similar to the 640th model, but acceleration is slightly faster (4.4. sec.), and fuel consumption is slightly higher (9.1 liters).

The same technology is used on the three-liter 313-horsepower six-cylinder diesel engine, which is mounted on the 640d xDrive version. The motor allows the coupe to accelerate in 5.2 sec. The speed limit is the same as in gasoline models. Reviews about the 640th model indicate that a 100-kilometer trip will require 5.5 liters of diesel fuel.

Now let’s break down the other TTCs.

The engines of all-wheel drive coupes work in tandem with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which has “Sport”/”Manual” modes. If the car moves in normal mode, the inter-axle traction has a ratio of 40:60. As soon as the automation detects a loss of traction, the potential goes to the chassis that has better traction.

The front suspension of the coupe is double wishbone, aft suspension is multi-lever (there is a thrust effect). Other features of the BMW F13 include electromechanical steering booster, powerful brake system, ventilated disks, and various electronic aids.

Equipment

In the “base” coupe is equipped with suspension, electromechanical steering booster, active steering system. An additional option is Adaptive Drive with dynamic flap control.

For the sports coupe, the options are the Individual/M Sport Package.

The first package is characterized by the color ruby black metallic. It can shimmer into a dark red hue (it all depends on the angle of light). This car is fitted with R19/20 light alloy V-spoke wheels. The interior upholstery is leather (Merino).  The 2nd package is characterized by R19/20 double-spoke wheels. The sport seats have maximum support even when cornering. They are covered with Nappa leather, are electrically adjustable and adapt to the driver’s body. The multirole has switches for the 8-range Steptronic sports automatic transmission.

Difference between restyling and prerestyling

In 2015, the concern showed at the exhibition in Detroit BMW F13, restyled. The car received new equipment and underwent minor changes in the exterior and interior.

The grille has lost two slats. Now each section is equipped with 9 slats.  LED lights have appeared. Adaptive lighting technology is an option. Side mirrors with bumpers have been changed. There are 5 new colors for the body. Coupes with six-cylinder engines received disks R17 and their spigots increased. On the “eights” were put R18. Leather upholstery received two new colors.

Restyled BMWs can be retrofitted (options):

• Sportchairs;
• Heated rear-row seats;
• Panoramic sunroof;
• Surround-view video camera;
• Four-zone climate control;
• Windshield.

The “charged” M6 has appeared. They are equipped with an eight-cylinder 560-horsepower unit, which combines with a 7-speed “automatic”.
