Production of this engine started in 2011 and is still ongoing. The cylindrical block here is made of aluminum, with an injector as the power supply system. In-line, 4 cylinders and 4 valves per cylinder are the standard parameters of this unit and its competitors. The piston stroke here is set with 85.8 millimeters. But the cylinder diameter is 77 millimeters. The compression ratio is 10.5, and the volume of the unit itself is 1.6 liters. Power at 4000 rpm will be 102 horsepower, at 4400 rpm will be 136 horsepower, at 4800 rpm is 170 horsepower, and at 5000 rpm comes to a mark of 177 horsepower. Maximum torque here at 1100-3900 rpm will be 180 N*m, at 1350-4300 rpm becomes 220 N*m. And at 1500-4500 rpm it is equal to 250 N*m. Gasoline is best to fill 95 and 98 grades. Environmental standards called Euro 5-6 are set in this unit. Fuel consumption on the highway is 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers, on the mixed territory it will be 5.7 liters, and in the city is equal to 7.2 liters. The oil is consumed at a rate of 700 grams per 1000 kilometers. You can use oil 5W-40 and 5W-30 for this engine. At the same time there is about 4.25 liters of oil. After replacement, only 4 liters are required to be filled. Replacement is carried out every 10 thousand kilometers. The engine resource is approximately equal to 250 thousand kilometers in practical conditions. Tuning can bring about 200 horsepower without loss of resource, but in the potential it can give more of the same 200 horsepower. The unit can be installed on 114i, 116i, 118i, 316i, 320i.

Advantages

This engine is part of the modern generation of units with 4 cylinders. It was designed to replace its predecessors and it succeeded. The block is made of aluminum alloy with cast iron liners. The crankshaft is forged and has 8 counterweights, the connecting rods and pistons have been resized to perform all the necessary functions. The block cylinder head is state-of-the-art, featuring a valve lift and valve height change system without dividing into stages. It also utilizes the familiar proven system that changes the distribution phases on both shafts. The compound camshafts have been met with delight by drivers. The engine also features direct gasoline injection. The turbo compressor is fully twinscroll, it blows somewhere around 0.7 bar, but that’s enough. An excellent system for engine management has appeared in this version. The motor is used for 20i, 18i, 16i, 14i.

Disadvantages

The engine vibrates, this is usually caused by clogged or dirty injectors, which must be cleaned. RPMs often float, it happens after contamination of the idle valve or throttle valve. Gasoline consumption increases to large indicators. In this case, you need to check the air flow or gauges. The problems often lie in them. Also the engine does not like it when it is constantly changing working fluids, saving on these means is also to nothing, because later it can lead to bad consequences. It is best to use 98 gasoline, it is recommended by the developers of cars. The driver must constantly be aware of the condition of the motor and carry out regular maintenance.

Chip tuning

It is best to use Chip tuning in order to maximize the power of the unit. A huge number of establishments can qualitatively and reliably install the firmware, the driver only pays the cost of the service. After that it is possible to get a stable 200 horsepower, it is excellent, fast and cheap to increase the capabilities of the car. If the car constantly has to be on the move and its work very much affects the owner’s employment, then you can install a heat exchanger, which will cope with all the tasks assigned to it.

Modifications

The M0 started in 2011, it is basic and has a fluid and oil heat exchanger. The oversized pipe helps it do its job quickly, and it stands at the back and center of the exhaust. You can achieve 170 horsepower at 4,800 rpm and the maximum torque will be 250 N*m at 1,500-4,500 rpm. The unit is available for BMW with the index 18i or 20i.

The U0 also began production in 2011. It is another variant without a heat exchanger. It has a small exhaust pipe on it, which is also mounted back and center. The program helped to reduce the power to 136 horsepower because of the risk of getting wrecked. This figure can be achieved at 4350 rpm. But the maximum torque here at 1350-4300 rpm is 220 N*m. The engine is produced for BMW with the index 16i.

The K0 started production in 2012 and is still pleasing its enthusiasts. It is weak and has an exhaust similar to previous models. Power here equals 102 horsepower at 4000 rpm. But the maximum torque at 1100-3900 rpm reaches 180 N*m. The model is produced for BMW with the index 14i.

This engine is installed on the following models:

BMW 1-Series (F20)

BMW 1-Series (F21)

BMW 3-Series (F30)
