Advantages

The engine was designed on the basis of N42B18. The changes affected the camshaft, the piston stroke was reduced. Also in B16 different connecting rods are used. The new engine does not use the Valvetronic altitude control system. The cylinder head is covered with a different cover. Different plugs and a different alternator are used. In 2007, an engine update came out, and the prefix N was added to the name. The analog on the BMW 16i was a two-liter motor N45B20S. For budget varieties of the car was used B16. In 2011, production of another motor began, trumpeted with a volume of 1.6 liters N13B16.

Disadvantages

Owners note knocking in the engine, which is explained by the timing chain tensioner. Their life leaves much to be desired – after 100 thousand kilometers of mileage, replacement is required. Due to the Vanos system, a slight vibration at idle is noted. The problem can be corrected by cleaning. The engine has a predisposition to detonation. It is not recommended to experiment with oil. Chip tuning

The motor has no sporting purpose, for this reason it is impossible to find normal and effective tuning on N45B16. The only solution is to use a filter with a reduced degree of resistance.
