N52B25A is a gasoline engine with a displacement of 2.5 liters. To be more precise, it is 2497 cubic centimeters. It has a power of 218 hp. It was predominantly installed in BMW 3-series cars. By its type, this power unit is in-line and has a set of 4 cylinders. Each cylinder has 4 valves, which total 16 pieces. There is no supercharger. As fuel, it is recommended to use AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline. Fuel consumption directly depends on the conditions in which you operate your car. On average, the figure does not go beyond 9-10 liters per 100 kilometers traveled. However, this indicator refers mainly to a mixed driving style. The motor feels most comfortable on the highway. When driving in a busy urban area, the consumption will be slightly different to a greater extent. However, in general, fuel consumption is not high, given the power of the engine itself.
The N52B25 motor was produced between 2005 and 2011. The developer was Munich Plant. The motor belongs to the N52 engine series. It has an injector feeding system. The cylinder block is made of high-quality materials: magnesium and aluminum. The power unit fully complies with environmental standards Euro 5. Oil consumption reaches the mark of 1000 grams per 1000 kilometers traveled. It should be replaced every 10,000 kilometers. The operating temperature of the engine is 95 degrees. In practice, the resource of the motor itself is approximately equal to 250-300 thousand kilometers.

Disadvantages
Despite the fact that in general the described engine can be called quite reliable, it has its own shortcomings. The main problem of the engine is oil consumption. The main cause is thin oil rings, which can quickly become clogged. Sometimes the problem is worn oil caps. All of the above can happen on the N52 and at mileage up to 100,000 km. It is therefore strongly recommended that the condition of the crankcase vent valve be checked regularly.
If you ignore this problem and keep driving, the catalytic converters will inevitably become clogged. There are two ways to solve this problem. First, buying new catalytic converters. Second, the purchase of flame arresters. The second method is the most economical. From other problems we can single out all sorts of overheating and the fact that periodically the revs can float.
It is worth recognizing that the described engine is practically not adapted to various refinements and tuning. However, if you still want to try, the easiest way is chip tuning. You can raise the power by about 20 hp by purchasing an air filter, “evil” firmware and a sport exhaust pipe.
Modifications
As for modifications, there are 3 of them:
- N52B25U1. Produced from 2005 to 2008. It is a basic engine, smothered by means of an intake manifold. Power output is 177 hp.
- N52B25. Years of production: 2009-2011. This is a blown power unit with a different intake manifold. Power of the engine is 204 hp.
- N52B25O1. Produced from 2005 to 2007. It is the most popular version. Power reaches the mark of 218 hp.
