The BMW B57D30MO powertrain is a three-liter motor that provides for the installation of six cylinders. This is a new-generation engine, which was developed specifically to replace the analog from the previous N57 line. On these modifications of motors installed TwinPower Turbo technology from the Bavarians, which provided for the presence of an additional supercharger in the form of a turbine with variable geometry. As a system of direct fuel injection was used Common Rail, characterized by the presence of a common fuel ramp. At the time of the start of assembly of the power unit, it had the highest power among all diesel engines with six cylinders.

Description
The Bavarians are considered to be one of the leaders in the automotive market, so they need to constantly be in search of new and modern solutions to reduce the amount of fuel consumed. BMW is also a leader among manufacturers engaged in the assembly of reliable power units characterized by a long service life.
In the constant race to reduce consumption, BMW introduced the B57D30MO powertrain to the world in 2008, characterized by an in-line cylinder arrangement. This motor is very popular until today. It is worth familiarizing yourself with the characteristics of the engine, as well as paying attention to its weaknesses and strengths, in order to decide for sure whether it is suitable for you.
The most important feature, thanks to which the power unit B57D30MO became in demand and popular, was the fuel consumption. It was in the race to improve these indicators that the Bavarian concern began to produce such motors. The average consumption was:
- About 6.5 liters of diesel fuel per hundred kilometers of travel while driving in the urban cycle.
- When driving on the highway, you will have to refuel about 5 liters to cover a hundred kilometers.
- In a mixed driving cycle, the consumption does not exceed 5.4 liters.
But the race for fuel economy did not affect the environmental performance of the motor in any way. The B57D30MO did not cause any complaints in this aspect. The power unit fully complied with all environmental requirements of the European Union Euro 5 and Euro 6 standards.
Passport data obtained about the motor at the factory indicates that the consumption of lubricant does not exceed 700 grams for every thousand miles traveled. It is best to use 5W-30 oil, less often official representatives recommend the use of 5W-40.
The lubricating fluid should be replaced after every 7 thousand kilometers of mileage. It should be borne in mind that the data is provided only for optimal operating conditions, so in case of aggressive driving style or traveling on bad roads, it is necessary to reduce the frequency of replacement.
The resource specified by the manufacturer is not true. But in this case it is not as usual – the motor runs more. With normal maintenance, competent operation, use of only quality oil and diesel fuel, the power unit is able to overcome about 300 thousand kilometers without going to the service for major repairs. This is also a positive factor for tuning enthusiasts, and there are a lot of them among BMW owners.
Diesel power unit B57D30MO is quite a reliable engine, which stands out against the background of high build quality, which positively affects the level of trust from car owners. This can be judged by the opinions from users and specialists.
The design of such engines is relatively simple, so they can be serviced by yourself without much effort. As for repair, it is better to contact qualified specialists in service centers.
