BMW X4 G02

The new BMW X4 in the G02 body was presented to the public in the winter of 2018 at an online presentation. A month later, the model officially debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. The start of sales in the domestic market falls on the summer of 2018.

The crossover incorporates all inherent features of the BMW brand: coupe-like exterior, luxurious interior, aggressiveness and power. Compared to the previous generation, the new BMW X4 G02 model has improved in many respects: updated interior, several varieties of appearance to choose from, modern advanced powertrains, weight reduction.

Already in the past year, the manufacturers have achieved good results in terms of sales. Feeling the tough competition in the car market, the Bavarians realized that most modern autos have similar technical characteristics. Therefore, motorists should be surprised, which the Germans have successfully fulfilled. Crossover BMW X4 G02 has considerably added in maneuverability because of the shift of the center of gravity and interaxle weight ratio 50/50. The SUV has increased in dimensions, power parameters, dynamics, from what motorists are delighted.

The main competitors of BMW X4 G02 are Audi Q5, Infiniti QX50, Mercedes GLA Coupe, Land Rover Discovery Sport. The production of the car is established in the USA, in the city of Spartanberg.

Exterior

Judging from the BMW X4 G02 review, the exterior of the crossover is characterized by beauty, modernity, swiftness, and elegance of lines.

The front end of the car shares common features with the X3 G01. At the front there are LED headlights in the form of a signature squint, relief hood, standard radiator grilles with nostrils, three-section bumper with a wide air intake. On the sides of the front bumper there are running lights with fog lights edged with chrome inserts.

The exterior of the SUV is characterized by an elongated hood and a sloping roof, smoothly passing into a small trunk. Muscular rounded wheel arches of square shape add power and aggression to the SUV.

The rear part of the crossover attracts the eye with the presence of narrowed lights with three-dimensional effect, as well as a thoughtful design of the bumper. On each side of the bumper there are exhaust pipes. The license plate section has been moved to the bumper.

Depending on the selected option package, the buyer can purchase one of three different exterior designs. The most expensive modifications can boast an improved design of the front bumper, the presence of inflated air intakes.

According to the dimensional characteristics of the BMW X4 G02, the crossover belongs to the mid-size models. Compared to the previous generation F26, the auto has increased the dimensions of the BMW X4 due to the transition to the modular CLAR platform. The length of the car is 4752 mm, width – 1918 mm, body height – 1621 mm. Changes in dimensions have had a positive impact on the aerodynamic drag coefficient, which was reduced from 0.33 to 0.3. The result was achieved due to the exterior upgrade and the introduction of active louvers in the radiator grille.

The wheelbase of the BMW X4 G02 has increased by 54 mm in contrast to the previous generation and is equal to 2864 mm. The SUV boasts a high ground clearance of 20.4 cm, thanks to which the car is able to easily overcome small off-road terrain. The curb weight of the BMW X4 G02 has been reduced compared to its predecessor thanks to the introduction of the Efficient Lightweight design and varies between 1,720 and 1,895 kg depending on the equipment.

The basic configuration of BMW X4 G02 is equipped with 18-inch wheels. Charged modifications M40i, M40d in basic equipment have 20-inch wheels. Optionally, larger rims up to 21 inches can be purchased for an additional cost.

Interior

The increase in the dimensional characteristics of the BMW X4 G02 has made it possible to expand the space in the cabin.  The crossover is designed for five people. Rear passengers have received additional 27 mm of free space between rows due to expansion of wheelbase. Nevertheless, the first reviews of owners about BMW X4 G02 note the cramped rear seats. People have to sit quite compactly, which is uncomfortable and violates personal space. The front seats are made in a sporty style, are characterized by ergonomics, comfort, the presence of side bolsters, various kinds of electronic adjustments. Depending on the selected package, the buyer will get different variants of interior trim.

Despite the coupe-like shape of the body, the trunk volume of the BMW X4 G02 has increased to 525 liters compared to the previous generation. To get additional space in the luggage compartment it is enough to fold down the rear row of seats. In total, you will get 1,430 liters. The standard equipment provides the presence of an electric drive of the luggage compartment lid. Inside the trunk as a bonus, you can find a 12-volt socket, a USB port, mounts for bulky cargo, and several storage compartments.

Engines

At the time of the beginning of sales, the crossover was equipped with three gasoline units. The iDrive20i modification provides a four-cylinder two-liter engine, squeezing out up to 184 horses. Acceleration to a hundred in the BMW X4 2.0 is carried out in 8.3 seconds at a maximum possible speed of 215 km / h. The motor in its design has a turbocharger, direct fuel injection system, sixteen-valve timing, adjustment of gas distribution phases.

Modification iDrive30i is equipped with a similar unit, but it has more powerful characteristics and accelerates up to 252 horses. The car with this engine is able to start from a place to 100 km in 6.3 seconds. For the domestic car market, the motor has been modified to 249 hp. The gasoline power plant develops a maximum possible speed of 240 km / h.

In addition to the basic modifications, a charged version M Perfomance is available. Modification X4 M40i offers a top gasoline engine with a capacity of 3.0 liters. Six-cylinder inline motor is able to squeeze up to 360 horses, developing a maximum of 250 km / h. The car accelerates to a hundred in just 4.8 seconds. As for the technical characteristics of the engine BMW X4 M40i, the installation has two turbochargers, 24-valve timing, direct fuel injection system, as well as the function of changing the gas distribution phases.

Among the lineup of diesel engines, the basic motor is considered to be the motor in the modification xDrive20d. Two-liter turbodiesel unit has a capacity of 190 horsepower, starting up to a hundred in 8 seconds. The motor is characterized by the presence in the design of 16-valve timing, battery fuel injection. BMW X4 xDrive20d is able to reach a top speed of 213 km/h.

Modification xDrive25d has a similar capacity of the motor, but squeezes out already 231 hp. The car accelerates to a hundred in 6.8 seconds. This diesel engine is capable of reaching a maximum possible speed of 230 km/h.

The xDrive30d version is equipped with a 265-horsepower three-liter unit. Acceleration to a hundred takes 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 240 km/h.

The top version with a diesel engine is called the BMW X4 M40d. The motor is a three-liter 326-horsepower. Acceleration to 100 km from the start takes only 4.9 seconds. The car with this engine is able to move at a maximum speed of 250 km / h.

Gasoline engines consume an average of 7.8 to 9.2 liters of fuel in mixed mode, and the fuel consumption of the BMW X4 G02 diesel is approximately 5.4 liters.

For BMW X4 G02 crossover it is recommended to use synthetic engine oil of viscosity 0W30, 0W40, 5W30. Filling volumes vary between 4.8 and 6.5 liters, depending on the type of power unit. Engine oil should be changed after 15,000 km or at least once a year.

Technical features

BMW X4 G02 engines are equipped with an eight-band Steptronic automatic transmission. The crossover is equipped with an all-wheel drive system xDrive. The clutch is multidisc, torque is transferred to the front axle. The standard mode assumes distribution of traction with a proportion of 40/60 with a large parameter on the rear axle. The occurrence of slippage leads to correction of these values and normalization of movement.

The BMW X4 G02 SUV is equipped with an independent suspension with stabilizer bars. It is equipped with a double wishbone at the front and multi-lever at the rear.

The steering is equipped with rack and pinion steering with electric power steering. BMW X4 G02 has disc brakes, front brakes are additionally ventilated. The braking system works in tandem with ABS and EBD.

The supercharged M versions have an independently locking rear differential, an advanced braking system, a noisy exhaust, and adaptive suspension with electric shock absorbers.

Electronics

In terms of electronic systems, the crossover is equipped with multimedia displays, parking assistant, projection screen, which allows you to receive and display basic data about the traffic situation, phone calls, current music list. In the M Sport package is available front diode optical system, full electric package, interior lighting, ventilation and heated seats, cruise control. Even the standard package is equipped with an electrically operated luggage compartment lid.

Additionally, a projection screen is available as an option, as well as a key with a Display Key screen.

Options

The base configuration of the BMW X4 G02 crossover has six airbags, LED optical system, heated front row of seats, electric trunk, front and rear parking sensors, multimedia, 18-inch wheels, ABS, ESP safety systems.

There is also a choice of three packages that differ in equipment and exterior design: M Sport, M Sport X, xLine.

The first modification is characterized by large air intakes, dodger, showing the sportiness of the model. A powerful glossy radiator grille in black color catches the eye. The rear bumper has a decorative glossy insert of gray color. In addition, the exterior is decorated with LED fog lights. The car is equipped with 19-inch two-tone alloy wheels. The model is equipped with sports brakes, exhaust with chrome inserts. In addition to the standard body shades, an exclusive Black Carbon Metallic color is available.

The interior of the sporty M package is supposed to have a resting pad for the driver’s leg. The pedals of the car are made in an exclusive design. Sports seats with leather upholstery. The multirole is leather.

The M Sport X modification is the epitome of solidity and, at the same time, sportiness. The central hexagonal air intake has inserts. Multifunctional steering wheel is leather with galvanized plating, and the seats are made in a sporty style and upholstered with leather of red shade. The car is also equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, sport suspension, sport brakes. The exhaust of the crossover is edged with chrome, and the fog lights have LEDs. The xLine package features a radiator grille made of satin-finished aluminum, which adds aggressiveness and power to the exterior of the car. Many elements of the exterior of the BMW X4 G02 xLine have brushed aluminum inserts and the air intakes are equipped with horizontal decorative lines. The exclusive Air Breather air ducts are particularly eye-catching. The interior features a sports steering wheel, with leather upholstery and galvanized finish.
