BMW X3 G01

The premiere of the third-generation BMW in the G01 body was held in the summer of 2017 in America in the state of South Carolina. Officially, the car was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall of the same year. The crossover has undergone some changes in the exterior and interior design. The car embodies sportiness and aggressiveness of character, versatility, ideality and comfort. The new BMW X3 G01 increased in dimensions, became more comfortable, more economical.

Sales in European countries started in 2018. The BMW X3 G01 SUV has been assembled at Avtotor in Kaliningrad since August 2018.

The basis for the third generation of BMW was the modular platform CLAR, installed on cars in the sedan body of the fifth and seventh series. The crossover was offered as an alternative to the F25, however, in comparison with the previous version practically did not change.

Exterior

The third-generation BMW in the G01 body is a five-door SUV belonging to the K2 class. The wheelbase of BMW X3 G01 has grown up to 2864 mm. The clearance of BMW X3 G01 is rather high and makes 20.4 cm. The car will easily overcome any road surface, will climb the curb. Curb weight of the model varies from 1725 to 1895 kg. The volume of the fuel tank is 60-68 liters.

The front part of the SUV is very recognizable. The radiator grille is divided into two sections with chrome edging. Headlights have sharp cuts, and fog lights, embedded in the bumper, have lost roundness and create a general impression of modernity, originality and style. The Adaptive LED optics give the exterior a dynamic look. The BMW X3 G01’s lighting features energy-saving technology, and in tandem with the daytime running lights, cornering lights, and Adaptive Headlights create stunning illumination and good visibility in total darkness and in bad weather.

In profile, the car looks sporty and dynamic. The hood of the BMW X3 G01 is slightly elongated, and the side part has creases. Wheel arches are rather large. Looking at the profile of the car, one gets a feeling of respectability and power of the Bavarian, capable of overcoming any obstacles.

The rear part is characterized by compactness, squat appearance, the presence of updated optics, two exhaust pipes, headlights with 3d pattern, relief luggage compartment. The rear bumper looks harmonious, especially in the charged version of the BMW X3 G01 M Performance, which has a Dark Shadow metallic design. The exhaust pipes emphasize the car’s sportiness and aggressive character, on the BMW X3 M40i version the exhaust has a trapezoidal shape, made in Black Chrome color. In addition, the rear of the model body has a drooping roof.

Even the standard equipment of the third generation BMW in the G01 body is equipped with LEDs. The car fits 18-inch wheel disks. The top modifications are equipped with 21-inch wheels.

Interior

Compared to the previous generation, the third generation of BMW in the G01 body has not undergone many changes. In addition, designers have introduced common features with the fifth-series sedan. Trim materials made of soft luxury plastic, wood, aluminum, leather, became more qualitative and richer. The design of the instrument panel is standard, having arrow dials, audio system, climate control unit, on-board computer. Buttons of climate and music control have acquired a silver shade, similar to the buttons on the steering wheel. The steering wheel has slightly changed its design and acquired more sporty features. There is more space behind the gearbox for storage of small things, the logo of X3 has moved upwards. The design of door handles has been updated. Air ionization can be installed as an additional option.

Above the dashboard is a 10.2-inch gesture-responsive display of the iDrive multimedia system. It can be used to control climate control, on-board computer, radio, and keep the car connected to a smartphone. Thanks to the appearance of the central display, as well as numerous wooden and aluminum inserts, the interior has acquired a richer look.

The interior is characterized by spaciousness due to the increased wheelbase and vehicle dimensions. Comfort will be felt both by the driver and passengers in the front and rear rows. Even taller people will enjoy being in a spacious cabin.

The driver’s seat is characterized by a comfortable seating position comparable to that of a racing car and offers the driver a wide view. The trunk volume of the BMW X3 G01 in any configuration is 550 liters, and by folding down the rear row of seats you can increase the space up to 1600 liters. Engines

The BMW X3 G01 SUV comes with two types of turbocharged diesel engines. The basic engine is a 2.0-liter capacity (modification xDrive20d), capable of squeezing out up to 190 horsepower. Acceleration to a hundred occurs in just 8 seconds, which is quite a decent figure for a diesel unit. The motor is capable of accelerating to a maximum of 213 km/h. Nevertheless, the engine BMW X3 G01 2.0 diesel is quite economical and consumes on average up to 5.4 liters in mixed mode.

In the future, manufacturers plan to introduce gasoline two-liter and three-liter engines with 184 (BMW X3 G01 20i) and 252 horses (BMW X3 G01 30i), respectively.

The top motor is a three-liter, six-cylinder 265-horsepower turbodiesel unit, complete in the xDrive30d modification. The car BMW X3 G01 3.0 d accelerates to 100 km in 5.8 seconds, with a top speed of up to 240 km / hr. The average fuel consumption on this engine is between 5.7 and 6.0 liters. To increase the power characteristics of the crossover it is necessary to carry out chip tuning BMW X3 G01, which will allow the car to give out up to 300 horses. Tuning BMW X3 G01 with downpipe helps to achieve power up to 320 horses.

The disadvantage of the BMW X3 G01 30d is the rapid failure of the timing chain, as well as tensioners. In addition, in the absence of timely replacement of consumables, there is a risk of problems with the oil pump, which manifests itself in the occurrence of noises when the revs increase. Occurrence of unnatural sounds when starting the BMW X3 G01 30d on cold is the failure of the hydraulic chain tensioner.

The top sporty version of the BMW X3 M40i is powered by a three-liter gasoline unit. The motor is in-line, has direct injection, two turbochargers, and a 24-valve timing system. The engine is capable of accelerating 250 km/h with a maximum output of 360 horsepower. The sporty version accelerates to a hundred in just 4.8 seconds. The engine consumes an average of 8.4 liters per 100 km.

For BMW X3G01 engines it is recommended to use synthetic engine oil of viscosity 10W50, 15W50.  The oil should be changed at least every 8,000 to 10,000 km to ensure smooth operation of the engine and extend its service life.

Technical features

As for the technical characteristics of the BMW X3 G01, the crossover modifications are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission Steptronic, as well as all-wheel drive system xDrive. A feature of the drive is the use of a multi-plate clutch to connect to the front axle. There is also a function of directional stability, allowing, if necessary, to distribute torque on all axles to provide better traction with the road surface, especially on slippery surfaces.

In the front there is a double wishbone McPherson suspension with stabilizers of transverse stability, in the rear there is a five wishbone suspension. The construction units are made of aluminum. In the new BMW X3 G01, air struts are not available even as an option.

Electronics

The new BMW X3 G01 crossover is equipped with many modern electronic systems that improve and facilitate the driver’s work. For example, cruise control has an autopilot function, allows to determine signs, markings, position of other vehicles. The car is able to change the lane on the road without the driver’s assistance, as well as partially take control of driving. In the future, manufacturers plan to equip BMW X3 G01 with an assistant in passing intersections, helping the driver to understand who should give way to whom.

There is also a system of three-zone climate control, ventilated seats with heating and massage function, interior lighting, made in various pleasant colors.

As for multimedia systems, the car, depending on the options purchased, can be equipped with a 12-inch screen instead of the basic dashboard. In addition, there is a 12-inch multifunctional display that allows you to use your phone to control the car via Apple Car Play, Android Auto. The model is additionally equipped with BMW Display Key, which helps to keep the fuel level in the tank under control, as well as turn off the heating in the cabin. BMW X3 G01 for the first time received a wireless inductive charger for cell phones.

Options

The standard equipment has a rich set of features. Regardless of the modification, the car is equipped with Auto Start/Stop system, LED headlights and fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels. Motorists will be pleased with heated front seats, multirole, front and rear armrests, automatic opening of the luggage compartment lid, folding of the rear row of seats. Standard audio system is equipped with six speakers, there is Hands Free with USB, iDrive multimedia display, climate control system.

Optional extras include a 10-inch larger multimedia screen, three-zone climate control instead of the standard single-zone, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic glass roof.

BMW X3 G01 buyers have the opportunity to choose one of the suitable packages depending on their preferences. For lovers of sporty driving, there is the BMW X3 G01 M Sport version equipped with the M Package. The car features sports aprons, a sports steering wheel, matching seats, aluminum inserts in the interior design, and a black roof.

The Luxury Line package, which is characterized by elegant trim elements, is presented for lovers of refinement in interior and exterior appearance. The modification assumes the presence of luxurious leather upholstery, as well as Sensatec dashboard. BMW X3 G01 luxury is equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels.

For improved driving performance, the manufacturers present X Line modification with increased ground clearance. In the exterior design designers used brushed aluminum inserts on the radiator grille. In addition, the car is equipped with additional underbody protection in the front and rear. For this modification, 20-inch alloy wheels are assumed. A feature of the interior design are front seats, made in a sporty style, as well as interior trim Fineline Cove.

For fans of exclusive and individual style of the car manufacturers have prepared a special modification of BMW X3 G01 Individual. The model is distinguished by the development of a new body color Sunstone Metallic. The peculiarity of the color is the difference of color effects depending on the angle of light hitting the surface of the car. The modification is equipped with 21-inch diameter wheels, thanks to which BMW X3 G01 becomes even more graceful and elegant. For Individual, there are three leather interior options to choose from.
