Advantages
In 2007, this diesel engine was introduced. It now used aluminum as the main material for the cylinder block. You could also notice cast iron liners, two balancer shafts on the design. Inside, however, there was a forged crankshaft and small connecting rods. From the top was installed head made of aluminum with 16 valves, it also had two camshafts. The unit featured the latest injection system and a turbo supercharger with an external intercooler. The turbine geometry could be changed at first. The timing drive is fully chain-driven, the chain being located behind the motor. The resource of this chain is calculated for the entire time for which the motor is used. But its durability and shelf life is lame. Valves of separate circulation is directed to exhaust gases. Two flywheel masses and the latest control unit were aimed at revitalizing the vehicle. In parallel, the developers also produced competing models, they constantly came to the fore and eventually replaced the unit.
Disadvantages
A noise is heard at the back of the motor. This is the most common problem, usually caused by a stretched timing chain. It usually lasts for about 100 thousand kilometers, and then you need to change it. It should be changed in time, so as not to bring additional problems to the machine. When replacing it is necessary to remove the engine, because the chain is located at the back and it is not visible.

The engine also gets hot because cracks appear between the cylinders. Welding in this case does not always help, but replacement will not be cheap at all. Turbines have a resource of about 200 thousand kilometers, but sometimes there are more. If you perform maintenance in time, you can increase their life up to 300 thousand kilometers. It is necessary to change oil constantly and in time, it is recommended to use only original oil, and fuel should be poured only qualitative. In addition, you should not constantly accelerate the car to the speed limit.
Chip tuning
In order to increase the power of the motor, you need to put a modern firmware. The firmware will add from 35 to 50 horsepower, and some versions of cars and units rock up to 210 and even 220 horsepower. In the top series of BMW motor can get to 240-250 horsepower and all this thanks to Chip tuning. The weakest names of engines can be pumped to a maximum of 185 or 200 horsepower. Some versions have a firmware up to 215, and with downpipes and up to 230 horsepower. The best motor can get a stitching up to 249 horsepower and higher. - The U0 was produced from 2007 to 2013. It has 243 horsepower at 4000 rpm, torque is 300 N*m at 1750-2750 rpm.
